Since our standardized testing was over today and I knew my kid's brains were totally mush from all the thinking and hard work they had to do this week, I let them have free play time (something I NEVER do... seriously, like twice a year). So I pulled out a bunch of things for them to play with... pattern blocks, linking cubes, marker boards, sight word cards to play memory or go fish, dominoes, letter tiles, magnet letters, etc...
Well, one of my boys was making a design with the pattern blocks and somebody else asked him what it was. His response? "A disco floor. You know with the light up squares and the shiny ball. People dance on it." One of my favorite moments of the day.

Then one of my boys called me over to the chalkboard to show me what he'd written with the magnet letters.... "baxter" and "fox". Which just made me laugh and make me think of Chelsea... F-O-X.

Maybe I should let them have free play time more often?
