So... in the past, I have traditionally wanted to cry or have cried at the end of the first day. Often from shear exhaustion and the craziness that is a roomful of fresh first graders.
Good news: I don't feel like crying today. Now... I'm not saying it was the BEST DAY EVER or anything... but it wasn't bad. I was on the edge of my patience by the end and I can tell it's going to be a long year for some of these kids. But there were enjoyable moments mixed in. And I got sleep last night.
At the end of the day, we had a few minutes so I asked the kids if there was anything they wanted to know about me. The very first question I got was, "Who is your husband?" So I said I wasn't married. The boy looked at me kind of funny, like he was confused and then one of my more outspoken girls shouts out, "That means she's single." It was kind of funny but even better were the incredulous follow up questions: "Well, who cooks at your house?" "Who does the dishes?" "Do you do laundry, too?" They were all amazed that I did all those things by myself.
Just a cute moment in an otherwise crazy day!
